Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, and so will Jaclyn, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on Jaclyn’s page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week’s topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick

Sidekick Showcase #37 – Best Costume

In honor of the Oscars, today, my Sidekick Showcase is the one with the Best Costume! And as soon as I came up with my theme, I thought of Eve from Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series! Eve is such a sweetheart, but she has this thing about vampires, and she’s goth to the nth degree. She even makes sure her face is ghastly white, she has dark make-up on as soon as she gets out of bed, and she wears tiny skirts, platforms and fish-net-stockings. I love this series, which is why I haven’t even read the last book yet, because it’s the last book ever in the series, and I’m not ready to say goodbye to my friends in Morganville.

You want some quotes, right? Eve is hilarious on top of always wearing the best costume, so here goes :

From Glass Houses:

Eve said, in a high, squeaky, airless voice, “The ghost! You’re the ghost Miranda was talking about! Oh my God, Michael, you’re the ghost! You bastard!”
He nodded, still concentrating on breathing.
Eve got control of her voice and squealed, “That is without a doubt the coolest damn thing I have ever seen in my entire life!”

“Of course, we could all die soon. I’m writing because Michael’s patrolling the house and Shane and Claire are asleep. It may be the last chance I have to write anything down.
So in case that’s true, I want to say that I love Shane and Claire, and I love Michael, and staying here in the Glass House has been the best time in my entire life….
But if it all ends here, at least it’s ending with the people I really love.”

“Not bad,” she finally said. “At least you left out the oh-my-God sauce this time.”
“Made myself a batch with it,” Shane said. “It’s got the biohazard sticker on it in the fridge, so don’t bitch if you get flamed. Where’d you pick up the stray?”
“Outside. She came to see the room.”
“You beat her up first, just to make sure she’s tough enough?”
“Bite me, chilli boy.

“Hell,” Shane spit in disgust. “I can’t hit a girl. Here, Claire. You hit her.” He tossed her the bat. Claire grabbed it and came to a clumsy batting stance, wishing she’d paid more attention in phys ed. Lillian screamed again and ran into the open doorway of Eve’s room. Eve, coming up the stairs, screamed, too, for different reasons.
“Hey! That’s my room, bitch!”

I could have gone on and on and on, but I think I got Eve across with just quotes form the first book
