Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.

Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows...and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

Archangel’s Enigma features one of Raphael’s most enigmatic people, Naasir has been a mystery to me since he first showed up, and it was a delight to get to know him better!

My Archangel’s Enigma review:

Naasir has a very specific quest in Archangel’s Enigma, he is to get Andromena at the refuge, because the young scholar may be the only one who can help him find a sleeping ancient, one Raphael and his allies need in order to counteract the archangel who tried to start a war by attacking New York a little while ago. Naasir is a very complex character, it’s unknown what species he is, exactly, but he is ever loyal to Raphael and the others who complete Raphael’s seven.

The main storyline is sprinkled with several sub-plots, which made Archangel’s Enigma a great listen! Andromena is keeping some important secrets, because she would like her future to be very different from what her grandfather has decided for her. At the same time, she is also loyal to Raphael, and she enjoys both sparring with Naasir, and helping him find the sleeping ancient. Their plans are put to an abrupt stop when Andromena is kidnapped, and Naasir has to enter another archangel’s strong-hold to get her back so she can continue to help him.

The narrator kind of threw me off my game for a while in the beginning, her voice has a breathless quality that works very well for the hot and romantic scenes, but that seemed a little out of place for the action scenes. However, once I got used to her, I was just living inside of the story alongside Naasir and Andromena. There is a lot of fight scenes in Archangel’s Enigma, and they were so well done I could basically see what was happening while Eyre told me Singh’s solid story. I absolutely loved Andronena because she was extremely smart, and also able to hold her own in a tough fight, ready to give her life to make sure the ones she was fighting with had a chance of survival.

While Archangel’s Enigma is really Naasir’s story, both Raphael and Elena are present in parts of it as well, and I always love the way the interact with each other. The epilogue set up what will possibly happen in future Guild Hunter books, and left me wanting much more, even if I was completely satisfied with this impeccable installment.

Some of my favorite Archangel’s Enigma quotes:

He had eaten the school’s pet-rabbit. He hadn’t meant to, but it was right there in front of him.

Not only to look, but to see.

It was a cold that made her think not of winter.
