This new adult contemporary romance contains mature themes and is recommended for ages 18+

This is a complete story with no cliffhanger!

Jet Taylor is the quintessential bad boy. A womanizer. A fighter. Dangerous. The type of guy most girls do their best to avoid. But Zoe Janes is no saint herself. In fact, she sees in Jet the perfect opportunity to distract herself from her responsibilities at home and the mistakes that keep her trapped there. He’s gorgeous, likes to party, and is clearly only interested in having fun—just like Zoe.

The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Zoe to stick to her “fun only” mantra. Jet is getting under her skin, making her believe things could actually be different. She knows they’re both trapped by the sins of their past but Jet is starting to make her think freedom might actually be possible.

And that makes him the most dangerous boy of all.

I really enjoyed Escape in You, because both Jet and Zoe live with far too much responsibility on their young shoulders, and they both have found ways to find an escape from their harsh lives. Drinking and having sex dulls all their pains, and they are both serial daters, until they meet. Zoe’s life has not at all been the way she had planned when she was younger – going to college had seemed normal back then, however, when her mom was not well at all, Zoe decided to stay home to help her out. Even if her step-father should have been the one to take care of her mother, Zoe felt too much guilt and responsibility to leave her mom behind and just live her life.

The readers learn about both Zoe’s and Jet’s problems and troubles little by little, and while I was able to realize more or less what was up with Zoe’s mom, the complete impact of it all was not revealed until the very end. Escape in You is a well written story, with complex characters who have been through a lot of anguish. And what really started out as an escape rather turned out to be more about saving themselves and each other.

The writing is really good, too, the way the story unfolds shows the reader little clues at a time, both about the plot and the characters. And the character development really pleased me. From not trusting anyone, and thinking she’d have to do everything in her lie on her own, Zoe finally realized that not everything in her past was the way she thought. And that she might not be as alone as she thought she was. Written in dual points of views, from both Jet’s and Zoe’s side, Escape in You really got me hooked because I could be inside their heads and understand them, even when they couldn’t possibly understand each other.

As I got to know Zoe and Jet better, I couldn’t help but both feel sorry for them, and also admire them because of the strength they had to have in order to continue to move forward at all, while being beaten down repeatedly by the very people who were supposed to help them out and protect them at all cost. Escape in you is my first venture into Rachel Shurig’s books, but it will not be the last.

I can’t fathom not having Ellie’s back in that kind of situation – not that either of us ever needs much help. We may be bitches, but we’re pretty capable bitches.

He’s looking at me strangely, almost as if he’s disappointed. I thought he’d be thrilled by my views on the subject since everything I’ve heard about him made him sound like quite the womanizer. I don’t have a problem with that. I’m basically the female version of the same type.

It’s just too much; too much fear and stress and worry. I can’t even enjoy the good days because they only put everything into stark perspective for me.
